The JH Resort wants to expand operations to accommodate 1,600 or more persons. That would be a city larger than the towns of Etna and Ft. Jones combined.
Say NO to the JH Resort Expansion Plan! 1,600 or more persons at JH Resort impacts the entire Scott Valley Community by: Heavy use of the mountain trails, lakes, and meadows by large groups. Converting 123 more acres to “Planned Development” could adversely affect deer wintering areas, wildlife and other natural resources. Massive consumption of water in drought and normal years. The JH Resort Plan projects a use of 2,958,970 gallons of water per month (83 gal daily per person). High volume of sewage processing in French Creek headwaters with potential for water contamination. Increasing traffic on French Creek by at least 400% plus Hwy 3 and Scott River Road as they own Scott River Lodge. Their plan indicates more vehicles will not have an impact.
Regular use of amplified public announcement system every day all summer long creates noise heard by neighbors up to four miles away and in the wilderness. They want to expand their operation to go all year long.
Are you Aware?? JH Resort is run by a registered Alabama-based foreign nonprofit corporation conducting business in the US and foreign countries. They pay no income tax, property tax, or bed tax, thus provide little economic benefit to Siskiyou County. They buy most supplies, food and non-perishable items outside of the area thus local businesses receive little benefit.
In the past JH Resort has had violations of their Forest Service Special Use Permit for Meeks Meadows and were put on probation for being caught illegally using the wilderness areas. Siskiyou County Grand Jury found JH Resort out of compliance with their permit. Siskiyou County Planning Department has not prosecuted violations and appears not to have the capacity to enforce compliance.
JH Resort Plan indicates they will monitor themselves to be compliant.
